6th meeting of the International Forum on LCA Cooperation, and Launch event of the GLAD platform • April 26-27 2018 • Brussels, Belgium
UN Environment, in collaboration with and through the generous contribution by the European Commission, is organizing the 6th Meeting of the International Forum on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Cooperation. We are pleased to inform you that the Global LCA Data Access (GLAD) platform will also be launched during this meeting!
With the launch of the GLAD platform, a momentous milestone is achieved, which has been almost 4 years in the making since the initial discussions were sparked in the 3rd meeting of the International Forum on LCA Cooperation in Washington DC, April 2014. The process has involved the dedicated work of hundreds of professionals and the many governments that regard access to LCA data as a cornerstone for informed decisions towards sustainable development, as well as the meetings in Shah Alam (Malaysia, April 2015) and Brasília (Brazil, March 2016). Discussions are underway to decide how GLAD can be hosted within the Life Cycle Initiative after its launch, in order to ensure its long-term stewardship. Its launch is a major milestone, but in fact only the first step in seeing improved access to LCA data, improving policies and decisions for Sustainable Consumption and Production.
The International Forum on LCA Cooperation will resume its dialogue around the use of LCA based policies and initiate a discourse on how GLAD and the enhanced LCA Data accessibility and interoperability that come with it can contribute to this end.
Topics to be addressed will include:
(i) LCA in policies: best practices, requirements and possibilities;
(ii) LCA as a tool for public and institutional procurement: policy options, prerequisites and methods;
(iii) Opportunities for advancing LCA based procurement through GLAD;
(iv) GLAD beyond LCA data: linking to other data sources.
Limited places for participation in the meeting are available. In order to secure your place, please confirm your participation by 30th March 2018. For any further questions, please contact Ms. Kristina Bowers. We look forward to welcoming you in Brussels!
