Today, the Life Cycle Initiative held its 2025 General Assembly during the LCM Conference, bringing together 100+ participants in a truly global hybrid exchange.

The Assembly opened with an interactive panel discussion on “Scaling up LCA: what’s missing and what’s next?”, moderated by Claudia Peña (EPD Latin America). Panelists Mauro CORDELLA (European Commission DG ENV), Marisa Vieira (PRé Sustainability), Philippa Notten (The Green House), and Jitti Mungkalasiri (National Science and Technology Development Agency, Thailand) discussed the current state of life cycle thinking and LCA data ecosystems globally, shared insights on critical gaps in practice, and explored actionable strategies to address them. Key themes included the urgent need for interoperable and trusted data platforms, the role of global initiatives like GLAD and the Global LCA Platform, and strategies to amplify training, capacity building, and policy integration to bring LCA into the mainstream.

The Assembly also featured project updates on major Life Cycle Initiative workstreams: the Global LCA Platform (by Ming Xu, Tsinghua University), Textiles and the InTex programme (by Claudia Giacovelli, UNEP), and the Biogenic Carbon Project (by Archana Datta, UNEP).

Finally, the elections for three new Steering Committee representatives opened immediately after the close of the Assembly and will run until 19 September 2025, midnight Paris time.

A big thank you to all our participants and speakers for their contributions in helping scale up LCA globally!
