Workshop on Life Cycle Thinking • Bhutan • 7-10 April, 2015
This workshop on Life Cycle Thinking co-organised by Bhutan National Environment Commission (NEC) and FICCI, aimed at raising awareness and promoting an understanding of Life Cycle Approaches.
The first half-day, targeted at high-level government officials, was chaired by Bhutanese Minister of Finance, Lyonpo Namgay Dorji. Shri Neeraj Kumar Gupta, from the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, India, gave the keynote address, stressing the need for LCT and LC Approaches to go beyond industry and involve all stakeholders also including government, NGO, consumers and citizens.
Anne Asselin (UNEP), Professor Hongtao Wang (Sichuan University) and Archana Datta (FICCI) presented the Life Cycle Thinking approach in different aspects linked to sustainable consumption and production, both for private and public sectors. Pem Lama (Green Public Procurement (GPP), Bhutan) presented the progress of this 3-year project, stressing that 60% of government spending was done on procurement.
Professor Hongtao Wang (Sichuan University) then led a 2.5 days hand-on training on Life Cycle Assessment and Management targeted at civil servants and industries representatives of Bhutan.
