UNEP/SETAC Workshop on LCA Database Development and Key Applications • Beijing, China • 6-7 March 2014
The International Workshop on LCA Database Development and Key Applications was held in Beijing on 6 and 7 March 2014 with 110 participants from industry, association, government and research representatives who joined the workshop. The active participation from different stakeholder groups shows that the interest in LCA is expanding from academic to industry and policy in China and in other Asian countries. The workshop was co-organized by the Chinese Institute of Electronics, the Sichuan University and the UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative. The conditions for mainstreaming LCA in China are consolidating through a number of recent requirements such as the development of Eco-design of industrial products guidance announced by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), and National Development of Reform Commission (NDRC) in 2013. The guidance underlines that need for decreasing resource consumption and emissions along the life cycle of products by using LCA. Other related policies encouraging the use of LCA are the ” Industrial energy-saving and emission reduction technology assessment index system and the evaluation method” and the “Energy Star product assessment campaign”. This year, MIIT plans to pilot the use of eco-design by using LCA. For more information about this workshop contact Wang Hongtao at Sichuan University.
