The International Workshop on Avaliação do Ciclo de Vida e Pegada Hídrica was held in Curubita, Parana, Brazil, on 24-26 February and was co-organised by UTFPR, ABCV and UNEP, with support from FIERGS-SENAI and the Rede Empresarial Brasileira de Avaliação do Ciclo de Vida. The workshop was well attended by the main actors promoting LCA in Brazil + the Life Cycle Initiative. The role and evolution of the Brazilian Association of LCA (ABCV), the Entrepreneurs Network of LCA, and the role of IBICT and INMETRO in the development of the Brazilian LCA database were described. The main aspects reiterated by most groups in the workshop on “Next steps for LCA in Brazil”, included the need for Brazilian DATA representing the main economic sectors; CAPACITY building, including awareness raising among consumers; standardisation of METHODS among Brazilian practitioners; better networking and coordination among current initiatives in Brazil. The main points of this debate are being taken forward into an action plan promoted by the ABCV and collected in a “Letter of Curitiba” building on the current Brazilian Plan on LCA (approved in 2010).
