International Meeting • Paris, France • 10-12 June 2013
The Life Cycle Initiative co-organised, hosted and facilitated the 2-day “2nd Product Sustainability Initiatives (PSI)” meeting at the UNEP Division of Technology, Industry and Economic in Paris. The event was co-organized by the Life Cycle Initiative and WRAP (a UK based organization working on SCP topics at international level).
Twenty-five representatives from PSI initiatives from Europe, North America, India, Brazil and South Africa came to Paris and exchanged thoughts on potential joint activities. Although they were not present, the interest and work on PSI going on in China, Korea and Australia was acknowledged. The 10-Year Framework of Programmes adopted in Rio+20 in June 2012 (10YFP) and the Consumer Information programme representatives provided an update on their work and various options for collaboration with the PSI were discussed.
Areas agreed for next steps are ‘consumer communication’, ‘sustainable lifestyles’, ‘product sustainability information meta guidance’ and the ‘business cases on PSI along the value chains’. This agreed group of areas represents the first phase of collaborative projects with a focus on improving the environmental performance of key everyday consumer products.
The next meeting is likely to be held on 7 October 2013 to coincide with the First PEF World Summit in Berlin.
