1) International Workshop: LCA, LCM and Environmental Footprinting • Curitiba, Brazil • 24-26 February 2014

The Brazilian Life Cycle Association, the Federal University of Technology – Paraná and the Life Cycle Initiative is organizing a workshop on LCA< LCM and environmental footprinting in Curitiba, Brazil. Learn more.

2) Product Environmental Footprint and Global Guidance Principles for LCA Databases Workshop • Beijing, China • 6-7 March 2014

A training workshop will be held in China in March on Product Environmental Footprint the Global Guidance Principles for LCA Databases. More details will be posted on the Upcoming Events web page when they are available.

3) Mainstreaming Life Cycle Thinking in South Africa Workshop • Pretoria, South Africa • 11 March 2014

A workshop is being organised for South Africa to discuss the opportunities and challenges for mainstreaming LCA and LC thinking in South Africa. Learn more.

4) LCM + Water Footprint Training Workshops • Cape Town, South Africa 12-14 March 2014 • Durban, South Africa 17-19 March 2014

Training workshops for Life Cycle Management and Water Footprinting are being organised in South Africa in conjunction with the National Cleaner Production Centre of South Africa (NCPC-SA). Learn more.

5) 3rd International Cooperation Meeting on LCA • Washington DC, USA • April 2014

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and U.S. Department of Agriculture, in cooperation with UNEP, are hosting an interactive international workshop focused on promoting a new intergovernmental partnership to improve LCA data accessibility, interoperability and application. Participation is by invitation. The workshop will be followed by the third in a series of intergovernmental meetings on promoting international cooperation on LCA, to further discuss issues identified in previous meetings, including interest in LCA data quality issues, applications of LCA in policy, and capacity building. 6) SETAC Europe 24th Annual Meeting • Basel, Switzerland • 11-15 May 2014

The flagship project 1b "guidance on life cycle impact assessment indicators" will hold a meeting at SETAC Meeting in Basel, and the Water Use in LCA (WULCA) working group will be holding 2 events. Learn more.

Flagship Activity Feedback

Life Cycle Impact Assessment Indicators (Flagship 1b)
Co-chairs Rolf Frischknecht and Olivier Jolliet 

This flagship project will hold a meeting on 15-16 May back-to-back with the SETAC Meeting in Basel, starting with workshops of the individual Task Forces on Thursday 15 May and a plenary workshop on Thursday late afternoon and Friday, May 16, 2014. Learn more.

The WULCA workshop group had its kick off meeting on 23rd January, and plans to hold 2 events at the Basel SETAC meeting

LCA of Organisations (Flagship 1c)
Co-chairs Matthias Finkbeiner and Atsushi Inaba 

After the meetings in November 2013 in Japan on Scope 3 and LCA for Organisations, this flagship has been evaluating the comments received at the workshop, starting to collect case studies and will have a virtual meeting of co-drafters.

Data and Database Management (Flagship 2a)
Co-chairs Guido Sonneman and Bruce Vigon

The major news from this Flagship is the upcoming event in China in March, as outlined in the Calendar section above.Learn more.

Global Capability Development (Flagship 4a)
Co-Chairs Cassia Ugaya, Sanjeevan Bajaj, Sonia Valdivia

Global Capability Development activities are currently funded through the core budget of the Life Cycle Initiative and the ENRTP funding from the European Commission. Target countries for the current round of funding include emerging economies and developing countries with export oriented economies, such as Brazil, Chile, Peru and Mexico in Latin America, Turkey and Russia in Europe, Egypt, Morocco and South Africa in Africa and China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand in Asia.
